It’s fair to say that most of us will be touched by cancer at some point in our lives – whether it’s family, friends, colleagues or acquaintances – we all have a story to share when someone mentions the dreaded ‘C’ word.
Here at Jones Harris, over the years we’ve done various fundraisers for different cancer charities – in 2014 the whole business supported the Trinity Hospice Corporate Challenge and turned our £50 seed money into well over £1000 for the Fylde Coast hospice. Also in 2014, Tax Manager Jane Craig took part in the Blackpool 5k Race for Life, Partner Stewart Case took part in the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge for Macmillan and in 2015 Audit Manager Melanie Luby took part in the ‘Pretty Muddy’ race.
The latest member of our team to take up the fundraising baton is accountant Alison Wilcock, who, along with daughter Lucy, has taken up the challenge of walking 10,000 steps every day in June to raise money to fund vital research, as part of the Cancer Research ‘Walk all Over Cancer’ campaign.
Alison says ‘It isn’t going to be easy, I’ve been monitoring my steps for the last few weeks and on some work days I don’t even do half of this amount! I am going to get up 30 mins earlier on work days to fit in a walk before work and I will be doing regular circuits of the office throughout the day.
“Like almost everyone else has, I’ve lost people to cancer and know others who have been treated. I’ve never done any fundraising for cancer charities before and thought that it was about time that I did.”
