We told you a couple of weeks ago about Alison Wilcock who is taking on the ‘Walk all Over Cancer’ challenge for Cancer Research this June (read the full story here) and if you’re a regular reader of our news pages you’ll know that various members of the Jones Harris team have done different things for charity over the years.
Well the latest member of staff to take on a fundraising challenge is IT Manager Matthew Arnold, who is taking part in a white collar mixed martial arts event, which culminates in a cage fight at The DeVere hotel on 12 August.
Matthew is putting himself through a gruelling 8 week training programme which includes grappling, K1 kickboxing and Brazilian jujitsu – quite a radical departure for someone who spends his working days at a desk in a shirt and tie, grappling with the intricacies of our in-house computer software, spreadsheets, hardware and cables!
He says the reason he is prepared to go through all this torment is because of the work that his chosen charity ‘Promise Dreams’ does to bring happiness to children who really need it.
Promise Dreams is a national charity with the sole aim of helping terminally and seriously ill children to have their dreams turned into a reality. Whether they would like to spend some time with their family following a prolonged hospital stay, the chance to meet their favourite celebrity, a specialist trike so that they can join in on family bike rides, or house adaptations to make day-to-day life that little bit easier, Promise Dreams are committed to help.
Matthew added “I’ve never done anything like this before and it will be pretty nervy on fight night. I train at a great gym with some great people. It’ll be tough, but it’ll be worth it.”
