Whether you export an odd parcel or regularly ship large consignments, you’ll want your delivery to arrive on time. It’s important to make sure your customs declarations are clear, to make sure they clear EU Customs in a timely manner.
Some shipments are being delayed, due to issues highlighted by the European Customs Authorities. The issues are with goods descriptions on waybills.
Make Sure Your Customs Declarations are Clear
Avoid your consignments being the ones which get delayed by providing clear and understandable descriptions on the waybill.
Acceptable goods descriptions include complete information and sufficient detail about what’s contained inside. The description should include what the goods are, the purpose the goods are used for and what they are made of. Accurate descriptions enable Customs Authorities to identify prohibited and/or restricted goods. They can also perform adequate risk profiling for safety and security reasons.
What’s an Acceptable Waybill Description?
Remember to make it clear and write it in simple language.
For example, instead of ‘Apparel’ write out what it is. Men’s shirts, girl’s vests, ladies dresses, boy’s jackets etc.
Don’t use a generic term like ‘Auto parts’. Is it automobile brakes, windshield glass for automobiles. etc.
‘Gifts’ could be anything. Be specific, is it remote control cars or garden ornaments?
