We’re not suggesting that you get the hammer and spanner out and strip old kit down yourself! But we can tell you how to recycle old computers and save yourself some money at the same time.
Volunteers at West Fleetwood Community Computer Clinic are on the hunt for old computers. They refurbish and repurpose them and pass them on to charities or job-seekers. So not only will you save money, you’ll also get a warm glow of satisfaction too!
We first introduced you to the Clinic, which is an initiative of Emmanuel Church West, back in 2014. The volunteers provide free help at their Monday evening surgeries to solve IT problems for those who would otherwise be completely stuck, but not able to afford to pay for help. Over the years they’ve helped many hundreds of people out of technical trouble!
Not only do they provide support and trouble-shooting for all kinds of hardware and software problems, they also recycle redundant and surplus computer equipment to worthwhile charities and community groups. Which is where your old computers come in.
How to Recycle Old Computers
For the first time since Lockdown 1 they have NO machines available for charities or job-seekers!
Do you have, or know of any old machines – preferably with cameras in current circumstances. If so please donate them, to be refurbished and repurposed. They’re after laptops, desktops, monitors, cables and all the bits of kit.
Not only is this helpful to those who might be less fortunate, it could also save your business from costly waste disposal fees under the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) regulations.
In the past you’ve recycled all kinds of unwanted kit. It’s collected, digitally cleaned and recycled into the community.
It’s important to note that the Computer Clinic promise to completely clean all the hard drives of donated computers using military grade algorithms. This means that no data can be recovered from the machine and that they are completely safe from identity theft.
