Grant Funding to Help with Brexit

Did you know that you can get grant funding to help with Brexit?

As another Brexit deadline comes and goes, you’ll probably be glad when it’s all over. Fingers crossed that that new deadline of 31 January 2020 will actually be the date from which we can move forward.

Looking on the bright side, it has given any unprepared businesses some extra time to get ready. And grant funding from HMRC is available to help you with the expense. That might be through training to learn how to complete customs procedures or IT improvements to help speed up the work load.

Availability of Grant Funding to Help with Brexit

You can apply for 2 grants to help your business complete customs declarations, in preparation for the UK finally leaving the EU.

You can apply to get funding for:

  • training that helps your business to complete customs declarations and processes
  • IT improvements to help your business complete customs declarations more efficiently

You can use the funding to reimburse what your business has spent on relevant IT improvements and training since 31 July 2019, as well as in the future.

Customs Grant Schemes Details

Any UK based business with less than 250 employees, which hasn’t previously failed to meet its tax obligations, can apply for a grant if they currently complete customs declarations.

The training and IT grants are actually quite generous.

  • Up to £2250 is available to 100% fund the cost of each training course and up to £250 per employee for internal courses.
  • Up to €200,000 is available for IT improvements – the maximum amount of state aid available.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is administering the grants for HMRC. The application process is online and closes on 31st January 2020 (or earlier if funding is fully allocated).
