Funding to Reduce the Environmental Impact of Plastic Packaging

The Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge from UK Research and Innovation has announced new funding to reduce the environmental impact of plastic packaging.

The £7 million competition for business-led research and development funds projects that focus on solving issues with the sustainability of plastic packaging.

Funding to Reduce the Environmental Impact of Plastic Packaging

Grants of between £200,000 to £4 million per project will be awarded.

To qualify you must be one of the following, working on innovative ideas for plastic packaging reduction, re-use, refill and behaviour change:

  • UK registered businesses,
  • academic institutions,
  • charities,
  • not-for-profit organisations,
  • public sector organisations,
  • research organisations,
  • and research and technology organisations.

The competition is looking to fund projects that are well developed, but not yet at large commercial demonstration scale.

The deadline for applications is 11am on the 8th September 2021.
