The end of January 2020 was marked with a sad but happy day, as everyone at Jones Harris said ‘farewell Steve and your pencil!’
The legend of accountancy that’s Steve Bell, affectionately known by staff as ‘Stevie’, has put in a whopping 36 years of service here at Jones Harris.
Back in August last year we told you the amazing story of Steve’s pencil. An ordinary, Staedtler 112HB pencil, he’s been using it throughout the entire duration of his long career with the company.
To mark the end of an era, Steve’s desk was decorated, along with the accompanying leaving gifts from his colleagues. He was presented with an engraved glass tankard and some beer money to keep it full!
Farewell Steve and Your Pencil!
The icing on the cake of his retirement celebration was, of course, the presentation of his trusty pencil, framed and preserved for posterity.
22 staff including partners went out for lunch and drinks to say a final farewell. Steve did say he’ll be popping in every now and again, and can also be found at the Wheatsheaf in Garstang!
Thank you for your service
Founding partner Charles Bryning said: “May I take this opportunity on behalf of the directors to thank you for your nearly 40 years of loyal service to the firm.
“We’ve known you most of your working life and it’s been a pleasure to work with you. You’ll be impossible to replace and much missed.
“You’ve given so very much to the firm and it’s been very much appreciated, but it’s time to put your pencil out to rest and thoroughly enjoy your well-earned retirement.”
Steve will be greatly missed but everyone at Jones Harris wishes him a great retirement.
