A glittering night was had by all last Thursday 9 November 2017, at the Lancashire Tourism Awards in the spectacular Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
The Awards are an annual celebration of the best of the counties travel and tourism businesses. Jones Harris were delighted to sponsor the Sustainability category this year, and be part of the judging panel.
An astonishing venue for Lancashire Tourism Awards
The evening itself was enjoyed by the Jones Harris team and it was a pleasure to meet long standing clients and new acquaintances alike under the beautiful ceiling of the ballroom. It’s an astonishing venue for any event, and of course the Awards were held only a few days before the BBC cameras are there for Strictly Come Dancing.
Judging Sustainability
The Sustainability Award assessed entrants for their breadth of expertise and practical application. It looked at what they’ve already achieved. How they integrate sustainability into daily operations. How engaged they are in sharing the sustainability message and what their plans are for the future.
Judging was difficult, and Jones Harris Director Martin Wigley found it a tough call to pick one winner.
Martin explained “It was clear that all of the Sustainable Award entrants passionately cared about the measures which they took to be environmentally responsible. It’s clear that there’s a demand for this approach from customers. That there are economic benefits to their bottom line. It’s also clear that it’s not a ‘green’ bandwagon – but a principle entrenched in their business success.”
Browsholme Hall, Clitheroe, was chosen as the winner of the Sustainability Category at the Lancashire Tourism Awards, 2017.
Track Record in the Tourism Sector
Jones Harris has a track record in the tourism sector spanning more than 40 years. In fact we’re the only CAA-registered ATOL auditor in Lancashire, which is why we were keen to be associated with the Lancashire Tourism Awards.
We provide cost-effective accountancy services to many of the county’s best known hotels, guest houses, restaurants, caravan parks, garden centres, tourist attractions and more, helping Lancashire’s tourism and leisure businesses to thrive.
Our own steps towards sustainability
Here at Jones Harris we operate a paperless office. We created a bespoke computerised system, primarily to improve our efficiency and provide a better service to clients. The side benefit of that was to dramatically reduce our consumables overheads, the amount of paper which we use, and the storage space required for all of those files.
We frequently look at other aspects of our business operations and how an initial capital investment could reap longer term savings in terms of cash and resources. So it made sense that we should support this particular category in the awards.
